A downloadable game

I developed Leeward as a piece of work for University in my third year. The brief was to develop either a game asset that could be sold on one of the game engine asset stores or a prototype of a game that could be sold on various marketplaces in the future once fully developed.

I chose to develop a prototype for a game I'd had in mind for a long while, but hadn't felt confident enough to tackle as I did not have much experience in coding at the time.

The idea of the game is relatively simple, you are a ship captain in a tropical sea surrounded by pirates and warring nations. When you start the game you have just a tiny ship and crew, but through exploration of islands, battle with other ships and trading with outposts you can build your crew and get progressively larger ships.

All the while you must maintain your relationship with your crew, if you don't keep them fed and watered they will start to desert, and/or die of scurvy!

You can also build relationships with the various factions in the game by attacking their enemies. The more of their enemies you defeat, the more they'll like you. Or you can simply be a pirate, attacking anyone who might have bounty for you to steal! Pirates will be pirates, though, so don't expect other vessels flying the black flag to leave you alone just because you're a pirate!

The project took roughly 3 and a half months to complete, although I was working on You're a MADMAN! and my Individual Research Project throughout the same period.

The controls are click to move in the surface world, and E to interact. Whilst on islands movement controls are changed to WASD and right click to control the camera and direction. In battles, the number keys can be used to fire the corresponding cannon.
